I was certainly behind their standards. I had to work hard to catch up. They were certainly more challenging than the public school I had attended. I loved going to Thomas Jefferson, but they did not accept anything less than your best. The teachers were great but expected a lot from the students. There was no slacking. 5. #4 Best Charter High Schools in North CarolinaLake Norman Charter SchoolHuntersville, NC·Public School·K-12·Rating 4.04 out of 5 284 reviewsSenior: Starting a robotics club at Lake Norman Charter was one of the best experiences I've had. It provided me with the opportunity to explore my passion for robotics and engineering in a supportive environment. The best part was seeing how the club grew and how students became more interested and involved in STEM fields because of it.However, the limited opportunities at Lake Norman Charter were also evident. While the robotics club was a great start, there were still areas where the school could have expanded its offerings in STEM education. More resources and support for students interested in pursuing STEM-related careers would have been beneficial.Overall, my experience at Lake Norman Charter was positive because it allowed me to pursue my interests and make a difference in the school community through the robotics club. 7. #6 Best Charter High Schools in North CarolinaCommunity School of DavidsonDavidson, NC·Public School·K-12·Rating 4.39 out of 5 83 reviewsSenior: Every friend of mine who attends a school that is not CSD is always in awe of the things that csd has to offer students. Whether this be class sizes, teacher-student relationships, accessibility to class content, and overall class selection. No matter what, all four of those dominant csd traits awe my friends. I always hear “I want to go to your school” or I hear “There is no way your school has a whole class dedicated to that, I wish my school had that” I even get the “can you get me into csd?” All of these traits make up the csd way, “Be the best version of you.” One question everyone has when someone says, “the best” is, what does it take to be “the best”? It takes a environment nurtured by people to make the new gen help others. From going once Friday out of every month to do community service, to having teachers that help build character, csd is for everyone.... 8. #7 Best Charter High Schools in North CarolinaPine Lake Preparatory SchoolMooresville, NC·Public School·K-12·Rating 4.08 out of 5 144 reviewsSenior: This school is great in that it is possible to do grades K-12 on the same campus but each "school" is housed in a different building with the exception of fine arts, physical education, and certain STEM classes where classroom spaces are shared between all grades. The best in technology resources have been deployed to all students with students in K-5 utilizing school provided I-pad technology and 6-12 utilizing school provided MacBook technology. The selection of electives and AP courses is extensive in the high school including unique courses in Animation, Design, Science, and Engineering. The only downside that some may encounter is the lack of other languages offered at Pine Lake Prep. Spanish is the only foreign language made available to students; however, there is one class of kindergarten students selected each year to participate in Spanish Immersion from K-12.All of the offerings are very unique, especially in a relatively small school.... 9. #8 Best Charter High Schools in North CarolinaTMSA Triangle - Triangle Math and Science AcademyCary, NC·Public School·K-12·Rating 3.69 out of 5 52 reviewsJunior: Triangle math and science academy is a very solid charter school in the triangle area and deserves to be considered if you are a student looking to peruse an education in business, engineering, mathematics, or any other STEM subject. The school is great for preparing students for college and their careers by offering college level CTE courses from PLTW. If you are interested in DECA or FBLA, triangle math and science boasts top chapters in both of those competitions. The main waypoint of this school is its lack of resources and facilities as it is not even done being built as of right now. This can mostly be attributed to its small size which gives it the advantage of allowing every student to get to know everyone else and feel more at home compared to schools with 2,000+ students. Most of all however I love the way that TMSA allows its students to take ownership of what they do both in their classes, their clubs, and other programs such as Leader In Me.... I do not think that I have ever had a teacher that showed anything less than genuine love and care for their students' wellbeing. Of course, some teachers were more liked than others, but at the end of the day, I left school feeling satisfied with my learning. There are a few rules and how those rules were enforced throughout high school that probably could have been addressed differently. They're confusing with their dress code, letting somethings slide one year and not allowing them the next. The QR codes to sign out for anytime a student leaves class is a bit unnecessary. If a student needs to use the restroom they shouldn't be timed. Granted, some students did take advantage of the freedom we used to have regarding leaving the classrooms, but those few people's decisions shouldn't effect the entire student body.... 13. #11 Best Charter High Schools in North CarolinaCornerstone Charter AcademyGreensboro, NC·Public School·K-12·Rating 4.48 out of 5 46 reviewsAlum: I attended Cornerstone Charter Academy since it opened, which for me was my second grade year. I have seen this school built from the ground up, and I am immensely thankful for that experience. I created friendships that will last a lifetime, and have had teachers that have pushed me to be the best version of myself. I did have my ups and downs, but the teachers that I formed bonds with never failed to help me through. I would like to see a change in the support for mental health, and I feel that administration should take a better approach of doing so. The teachers work overtime with care for the students, and providing a better support system for mental health can take some pressure off the teachers. I believe that there are so many wonderful teachers at this school. Of course there are some bad apples, but overall I loved my experience at this school.... Union Day SchoolWeddington, NC·Public School·K-11·Rating 3.92 out of 5 13 reviewsParent: As a parent, I love that my middle schooler can be part of school sports, without being exceptionally athletic. The focus is on academics but also on the whole child. The staff seem very well supported by administration. The fact that my children can stay at one school from K-12, even if we move within the area is such a great feeling. As parents, we get to decide where our children go to school, and Union Day has the balance we are looking for.We left our zoned school because of the middle and high school behaviors our children were consistently being exposed to. Although there has been many changes since then, in my mind it is a wonderful institution. My favorite part about the school is the effort made by the teachers and administration. All of them have a goal to see each and every student success and that is hard to find in public school. For example, if you were struggling in a class, the teacher would immediately jump in and help you with anything you needed. Another thing I love about LCS is that the atmosphere is safe and comfortable. The students have close relationships with the teachers and there is no underlying uncomfortable feeling or questioning of ones safety in the building. Something that I am not the biggest fan of is the lack of a football team. Not having a team led many other people including me to travel to a neighboring school to watch and enjoy the football atmosphere. Despite this one thing, I really enjoy my experience at LCS.... There are so many great things about MICS such as they are a K-12 program giving you the opportunity to grow within their walls. They offer many programs that enhance our learning experiences not just in the classrooms but outside as well such as enrichment field trips, online courses, and so much more! They even offer a week-long senior trip every year. MICS also gave me opportunities with my Aspergers, by giving me the tools that I needed to be successful. Which included helping me expand the fashion program. A few things that I would like to see change is how the school counselors talk to the students. They aren't very approachable and cut you off very quickly. They seem to just want to counsel students in regard to life after high school, not life in high school. I started my journey here in the 4th grade and ever since then I knew I was on the right path. Henderson Collegiate is located in Henderson NC, in Vance county. Vance County and Henderson are known for its underrepresented areas and violence, putting it at one of the most dangerous cities in North Carolina. Despite this Henderson Collegiate had continuously produced top tier students every year. This year, the graduating class of 2024(my class) has received over $17 million in scholarships and 100% of the class has been accepted into a 2-year or 4-year college. With about 15% of those students being accepted to tier 1 or tier 2 universities.
