Unveiling the Snack's Ingredients

Currently, there are no Fritos^® flavors that are classified as vegan.

Its Original range is animal-free, including Scoops and Restaurant Style, but watch out for its flavored options, like Mexican Style Three Cheese, as these contain ingredients like buttermilk and whey, so are not vegan.

FRITOS® Chili Cheese also contains quite a few ingredients that makes it an impossible option for vegans. Included in its list of ingredients is a frightful amount of dairy products, such as cheddar cheese, romano cheese, butter and buttermilk. Not to mention whey! So it's a no go on the chili cheese.

Honey BBQ Fritos corn chips are not vegan because they contain non-vegan ingredients, including honey and refined sugar. Honey is a food made by bees and is therefore not vegan. Refined sugar is often processed with animal bone char to make it white.

Since 1966, Doritos has satisfied customers' snack cravings with their flavored tortilla chips. But unfortunately for vegans, only one variety is vegan-friendly: Spicy Sweet Chili. The other Doritos flavors contain various dairy products and animal-derived flavors, none of which are vegan.

Many vegans refer to Oreos as “accidentally vegan,” meaning they don't contain animal products — but they weren't created to be a specifically vegan treat. Oreos do not contain milk, eggs, or any other animal-derived products, so they are technically vegan in that sense.

ARE CHEETOS^® VEGAN? Currently, there are no Cheetos^® flavors that are classified as vegan.

Arby's curly and crinkle fries are indeed vegan, but plant-based eaters should ask about cross-contamination at their location.

Are ruffles vegan? ›

Fortunately for vegans, the original Ruffles® Potato Chip is vegan and made with only potatoes, vegetable oil, and salt. The All Dressed flavor is also vegan. But unfortunately, the rest of the Ruffles potato chip line are all made with animal byproducts, making them unsuitable for plant-based eaters.

Since 1932, Fritos has provided snack-hungry Americans with a Texas twist on the tortilla chip. Fritos' unflavored deep-fried corn chips are gluten-free with no artificial flavors, preservatives, or MSG. These classics contain just three ingredients—corn, corn oil, and salt—making them vegan-friendly.

Options like Classic, Salt & Vinegar, BBQ, and Lightly Salted are all plant-based, but that's just a handful of examples.

Not all Takis flavors are vegan, as they contain animal ingredients, like milk or whey, in the recipe. But there are plenty of options that are totally animal-free. The original Fuego flavor, for example, which tastes like hot chili pepper and lime, is vegan.

Our non-seasoned, salted-only snacks, such as Lay's Classic, Ruffles Original, Fritos Original, Santitas, Tostitos, SunChips Original and Rold Gold Pretzels, do not have animal enzymes of any kind.
