Dr. Paul Saladino quit the carnivore diet due to health issues. His book Carnivore Code has inspired thousands to start eating a 100% carnivore diet. What can we learn from this? If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. There are no magic diets. We'd be healthier if we followed Michael Pollan's simple advice: "Eat whole foods, not too much. Mostly plants."

Actually eating mostly plants from the studies and years of testing on myself on hundreds of clients isn't a great diet at all. When you look at grass fed steak compared to rice, beans and kale you would need to eat 300-400 calories more to get the same amount of essential amino acids from the steak. Eat whole foods yes, eat mostly plants no.Here is what I eatAnimal based protein far superior to plant based (50% of my diet)Single ingredient low inflamatory dietHealthy fats from eggs, avo & olives etc(20% of my diet)Carbs mainly fruit, some rice and potatoes (30% of my diet)

Nothing good ever exists in the extremes- I’ve been impressed how open he is to changing his mind and being vocal about that. I think we can all benefit from a little bit more of that!

I find it intriguing how much work it would take to eat too much if you were committed to very healthy eating. Growing takes more care if ideals are attended to. Foods are mostly available in-season. Proper storage takes a lot of effort and becomes expensive to consume in excess. Wholesome sugar sources are expensive to come by. Cream is relatively expensive to come by as are oils.We haven't even started into what it takes to prep and cook food aiming for the healthiest ideals - soaking, fermentation, and slower processes take care. By the time you work through getting very healthy food on your plate - eat as much as you want, you'll run out of time to get very fat.

Are you surprised about this? I’ve said it many times our world has become one of extremes, whether it’s political, the foods we eat, what we believe in etc. etc. Use your common sense and take a balanced approach to everything in life and you will do just fine. All of these extreme views unfortunately lead to individuals making very bad choices.

While I don't want to judge anyone on their personal choices, diets or lifestyles, I was courting Dr. Saladino to be an ambassador for InsideTracker. We had his blood work tested and he wrote me back and said something to the effect of thank you so much but that he couldn't be part of this because the science-backed recommendations based on his biomarkers he got back from the system encouraged him to eat less meat.

I like how he is changing so publically though, those holding on to their believes is even more dangerous imo. Like with anything, things are always evolving. That being said, I’m sure so many he influenced going meat only won’t necessarily change that easily, Ari Tulla

Who would have thought 100% meat diet is not good. I cannot believe people follow this type of stuff. Next week they will say 100% vegan is not good for over all health. Mostly plant diet is bad because of all the pesticides and herbicides and oxalates for your body
