Chests (2024)

Chests (1) Overview[]

Chests are interactable loot containers that are spread throughout the seas and islands. It can be found on most islands and in certain underwater regions. When opened, the player will receive a reward depending on the variation of chest opened. Whilst indestructible, a chest that has been ignited (by way of Fire, Magma or Plasma magics) cannot be opened until the flames go out. After being opened, they will take 10 minutes to respawn.

Chests (4) Treasure Chests[]

Treasure chests are the most common chests in game. Galleons, food, armor, weapons, fish bait, and many more items are all found in these chests, with the notable exceptions of cannonballs and sail patterns (which can only be found in Sealed Chests). They are found on all islands, and only have a 1/8th chance of giving an item. (max of 1 item)[1]

Chests (5)

Chests (6) Silver Chests[]

Silver chests are uncommon variants of treasure chests, and hold rarer rewards than common chests. It will always give 2 items, with the possibility of galleons as well.[1] They are especially common on Dark Sea islands. In the Dark Sea, silver chests have a 1 in 60 chance of giving Exotic enchantment scrolls.

Chests (7) Private Storage[]

Private storage chests are identical to Silver Chests, with the exception that whenever one is opened, the player's Fame will be reduced by 1,000, or their Bounty will increased by 1000. They cannot be opened if your fame is above 1,000 or if your level is below 50.

Chests (8) Gold Chests[]

Gold chests are the rarest variant of treasure chests, which rarely spawn in place of silver and common chests. When found, they will always give 3 items, with the possibility of galleons as well. They have a 1 in 5 chance to give an ingredient. (food, reagent, catalyst, etc.)[1] They are especially common on Dark Sea islands. In the Dark Sea, gold chests have a 1 in 60 chance of giving Exotic enchantment scrolls.

Chests (9) Bronze Sealed Chests[]

Chests (10)

Bronze Sealed Chests are a special type of chest typically found on NPC ships' decks when defeated with a ship (in amounts ranging from 1-3 based on the ship level) and in treasures which are sealed and cannot be opened by players normally. To open them, you must pick them up, and transport them to a Shipwright NPC who will open them for you. (2 can be carried at the same time) They contain significantly better rewards than Treasure Chests, as well as the blueprints for Ship Parts such as sails, sail materials, hull armor, lanterns, and cannons. They may also have a 1/60 chance to yield a Vindicator. Bronze Sealed Chests are the primary way to obtain Ship Parts.

Ways to obtain:

  • Spawning at shipwrecks
  • Defeating NPC ships of all kinds
  • By following treasure charts and sea charts

Chests (15) Trivia[]

  • In the past, Private Storages could be opened by anyone, which often led to massive amounts of Fame loss due to a simple misclick.
  • While many NPCs appear to be guarding chests, they won't actually attack you unless you're of the opposite reputation. This means players of negative reputation can "steal" from NPCs without any repercussions.
  • Chests originally gave players 50 EXP when opened, but this was eventually removed in the fishing update.
  • From v1.94 onwards treasure chests no longer gave food, spices, ammo or cannonballs due to their respective chests being added, however this change was reverted in v1.14.7.
  • Chests can be found with Treasure Charts and can be dug up with shovels.
  • You can place cargo and sealed chests in the ocean, where they will float for around 2-3 minutes before despawning.
  • There are maps of every single island's chests made by meowyahooyupi (a_human on the forum).
  • If you hold a sealed chest underwater and let go of it, it rises up out of the water really fast.
  • Treasure chart directions can be confusing. A useful site to use if you are having an hard time finding the location of your treasure is: https://myaltaccountsthis.github.io/arcane-odyssey-guides/treasure, the site was made by myaltaccountsthis.
