CURIS 2011 - Meru: Building a Virtual City

During the summer after my sophom*ore year, I was a research intern in Stanford's CURIS (Undergraduate Research Interships in Computer Science—get it? get it? ...) program. Under the direction of Professor Philip Levis and his amazing graduate students Ewen Cheslack-Postava and Behram Mistree, we explored the possibilities of distributed virtual worlds by writing applications in the Emerson scripting language (based on Javascript) for the Sirikata platform. Most of my effort that summer was devoted to a proof-of-concept library for client-side physics simulations, which was the subject of my poster in the final presentation session.
