Garrett Gerloff is Betting Big on 2026: A New Bike and a Familiar Face
After a challenging season, WorldSBK rider Garrett Gerloff is heading into 2026 with a renewed sense of optimism. He's got some serious upgrades in his corner, and he's not shy about sharing his excitement. But what's fueling this confidence boost? Let's dive in.
Gerloff is set to ride a new Kawasaki ZX-10RR in the 2026 World Superbike season. While he hasn't yet tested the bike in its race trim, the updates are already promising. The 2026 model boasts several technical improvements over the 2025 version, including a fresh aerodynamic package.
But here's where it gets interesting: Gerloff believes the most significant change will be his new crew chief, Les Pearson. He's worked with Pearson for four out of the past five years, achieving a number of podium finishes together. This familiarity and established working relationship could be the key to unlocking Gerloff's full potential.
"I think there’s quite a few things giving me confidence for next year," Gerloff shared. "One thing, there’s a new bike for next year which has some meaningful updates, I think, so that should make my life a little bit easier in some of the places where I was struggling this year on the 2025 bike... Also, I have a new crew chief, now – Les Pearson, who I’ve worked with in the past four out of five years and we’ve had a decent amount of podiums together. I think that’s probably going to be the biggest thing."
So, what's new with the bike? Gerloff is particularly excited about the updated aerodynamic package, including new wings on the front. He hopes these changes will improve handling, especially in fast corners, an area where he struggled in 2025. Additionally, the engine will see some updates, potentially enhancing engine braking and stopping power. If these improvements deliver as expected, Gerloff is in for a significant boost.
Gerloff's 2025 season was, by his own admission, his "worst-ever year in World Superbike." He's determined to bounce back, aiming for a top-six finish in 2026. "I want to be there, top-six minimum," he stated. His goal is to consistently rank in the top six, and at the very least, be in the top ten in the championship.
