Although I have only been at American University for a year, I have found amazing people and staff to advance my academic journey. It is difficult at first to make friends due to the social environment of the school, but if you make friends on your floor or in a class, it makes things so much easier! (90% of my professors I have learned so much from and were really amazing)! In class discussions really have lead to productive conversations and thought-provoking ideas. The academic rigor is great! The course work challenges me, but is not so horrible that I fall behind. Most of my professors have been very understanding, and if you approach them discussing difficulties you are having in the class, they are most of the time more than willing to help you as needed! The university being located in DC is super great for getting hands-on experience and finding new interests! A metro card is part of tuition and is EXTREMELY helpful!!!!... The program offers a diverse range of courses, emphasizing critical theory, literature analysis, and interdisciplinary studies. The faculty are highly supportive and provides personalized guidance when you need it. The university's location in Washington, D.C., is also a major factor of elevating my experience since there is easy access to cultural institutions, libraries, museums like the Smithsonian and Library of Congress. Moreover, there are engaging events happening throughout the semester so it's quite easy to make friends and find like minded people. Overall, my experiences has been positive and I love it here.... - #3 Most Liberal Colleges in District of ColumbiaHoward UniversityWashington, DC·4 Year·Rating 3.5 out of 5 4,122 reviewsSenior: I love Howard University! But like many schools there are pros and there are cons. I'll start with the cons. Administration can be very unprofessional, and a lot of campus activities are run by students so they are very unorganized and/or don’t cater to how many students attend Howard. On that same note, housing is not guaranteed for upperclassmen because they accept so many freshmen each year. When you do get housing it is a hit-or-miss thing in terms of cleanliness, rodents, safety, etc. As far as the pros, the quality of education has been great for me personally. Most of my professors have been delightful. Campus life is honestly what you make it. There are truly so many opportunities and organizations that allow you to be emersed in campus life, but that can come with cliques and elitism so you just have to have your own discernment and that’s honestly with everything. Overall, I am going into my senior year and do not regret my decision to go to Howard....
