He was able to spend time on his equipment just last year when he was a young 96 years old. Dying at the Souris Hospital in the town of Souris was so fitting. He had completed many construction projects around eastern PEI. He would often talk about helping to build the Souris Hospital by taking his backhoe into the building to dig the sewer and water lines. He also loved to reminisce about building the initial sewer and water system for the Town of Souris. He did so many little jobs for so many. How he loved getting in his dump truck or backhoe and moving from job to job, making new connections and friends along the way. His memory of the details around these jobs were amazing, even to his last days. So many people knew dad and had respect for him. Many would refer to him as a ‘legend’. Hours before his passing he was still talking about work. He is now on to the next job!!We, his family would like to thank the staff of Souris Home Care and Meals on Wheels for providing care and support to Dad, which assisted him to remain in his home until January 2024, when he entered the hospital. Also, a sincere thanks to Dr. Berrow, and the staff of Souris Hospital for providing such care and kindness to our father over the past several months. Dad was pleased and humbled with the many visits he received from family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances while he was in the hospital. We, his children, are appreciative of the generosity and compassion shown by those who visited, telephoned, sent texts, emails, and brought in food and flowers to brighten our days while Dad was in the hospital. Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home where visiting hours will take place on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from 4-7pm. A funeral Mass will be held at the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Souris, on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 2:00pm with interment to follow in the St. Alexis Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Rollo Bay.
