About Ragi Porridge

Porridge is a breakfast cereal dish made by heating or boiling ground, crushed, or chopped starchy plants, usually grain, in milk. It is frequently cooked or served with added flavourings like sugar, honey, (dried) fruit, or syrup to make a sweet cereal, or it can be mixed with spices, meat, or vegetables to make a savoury dish. Depending on its consistency, it is usually served hot in a bowl. A millet porridge is known as koozh in Tamil. In Tamil Nadu, it is commonly sold by street vendors.

Ragi was first cultivated in Karnataka's Hallur region during the later Iron Age and has remained one of the state's staple foods since then. Ragi is also a popular annual plant in arid regions of Africa and Asia.
