The new best chocolate combo. Rich cocoa powder blended with hemp seeds. The perfect spread, day or night, that's gluten-free, vegan, paleo, and sugar-free. Decadence at its healthiest and tastiest!
Have you ever tasted something so good that it really made you pause, the world literally stops for a moment? I have. Not even joking, some foods can just be that good. It's those moments that you start to believe taste is the most important of the 5 senses. But then you snap back to reality and realize if you didn't have smell then taste would be pointless (they work together you know!). Like when you're sick and your nose is stuffed up. You can't taste a thing and it's just terrible! Plus, I always seem to be extra hungry if I have a cold (need the energy?), so it can really cause problems. Anyway, back to the recipe!
February’sTheme: Favorite Chocolate Matches–Does your chocolate need a friend? This month’s posting will be after Valentine’s Day, so you may have a bit of extra chocolate around. What’s your favorite chocolate match? Be it traditional peanut butter or something more exotic like cayenne + chocolate. Show us your favorite healthy chocolate combo recipe.
Not joking, I almost ate this whole recipe in one sitting. It's silly to even call a recipe since it's only 3 ingredients, but my o my, this stuff is crack! I love hemp seeds and obviously I live for adore chocolate. I go through containers of unsweetened cocoa powder like it's my job! And it has to be Hershey's Unsweetened Cocoa Powder. Nothing fancy or expensive, just this good old intense, bitter cocoa. This may just be my new favorite nut seed butter. Spread this THICK on some apple slices and you'll be in heaven. That moment when the world stops will happen! It tastes so naughty, but there is nothing "bad" about it!
Chocolate Hemp Seed Butter
Ingredients: (makes enough to fill an 8oz jar)
+ 2 Cups Raw Hemp Hearts
+ 3 TB Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
+ 10 Drops Chocolate Stevia
+ 1 TB Water
Directions:
+ In a high-powered blender (or food processor), combine the hemp hearts, cocoa powder, and stevia. Pulse and blend until you get a butter consistency. Add a tablespoon of water if you need to get things a little more combined and moving. Blend it all up well and store in a jar, in the fridge, for however long it lasts <----- not long!
Hemp seed butter is so good! It's this crazy "nutty" perfect taste that just goes so well with the cocoa! I am so in love with this stuff! I really wish I had some now! By the way, this isn't a very "sweet" spread. You can add more or less sweetener depending on what you like! I kept the integrity of the unsweetened cocoa powder since I love it so much!
So tell me:
+ Are you one of those "Nutella people"? I've never had it. I love hazelnuts and chocolate though, so I'll have to make some vegan some time!
+ What's your favorite chocolate flavor combo? Really, chocolate on everything. I don't care, I will eat it if it has chocolate 😉

Think i will try this coming weekend. You asked about "being one of those Nutella people" ... Heck yes! I'm Swiss so growing up I got a treat of Nutella every once in a while. I still crave it sometimes.

OMG.... *want*. This looks so decadently delicious =) What a fun treat. And I didn't know Hershey's made an unsweetened cocoa powder. It's dairy free too?
Oh you need to try making nutella with your hazelnuts and chocolate. So easy to make and super delicious.
My favourite combo is a tie between chocolate & almond butter and chocolate & mint. Oh... and chocolate and caramel. Damn, too hard to pick just one favourite haha ;p
Reply
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Of course they do! It's real natural cocoa powder! Why spend millions of dollars on some fancy brand when Hershey's makes damn good cocoa!

How on earth did I miss this?! I used to LOVE Nutella in my pre-vegan days. I have never tried hemp seeds, but I know they are a good protein source and I've been eyeing them up at Costco. I'm with you on the Hershey's cocoa - it's the best. Now that I know I can make some chocolate-y deliciousness with hemp I'll be buying some!

Haha! Yes! Please go out and stock up on some hemp seeds! And yea, you can totally get a great deal on a huge bag at Costco! (Need to tell my dad to buy me some when he goes!)

I know what you mean about the world stopping upon first bite thing...and those moments usually involve something chocolatey 😀 Have you ever tried the Hershey's Special Dark Cocoa? I kind of like it, but it definitely tastes quite different and it makes everything you use it in really dark brown! I understand that you're pretty specific about your Hershey's Unsweetened, but I was just wondering 🙂
Reply
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, chocolate tends to have that effect 😉
Nah, I like just the normal cocoa best! I will always be a dark dark lover, but for some reason the normal cocoa powder is just better!Reply
