What Foods To Include And Avoid In A 7 Day Cleanse | NAKOA Life (1)

What will your New Year’s resolution be this year? If you’re anything like my two older brothers it will be that you want to have a six-pack this summer, lose 10 pounds, look good in your bathing suit, or get a girlfriend (sorry Lee but you know it’s true). This is the time of year that we tend to jump in full force set very high goals and expectations. Why do we do this to ourselves? It is because we feel guilty for eating too much stuffing? Drinking too many beers? Or eating too many sweets? Guess what? It is OK!

After the holidays people always ask me what types of cleanses or detox programs I recommend for them to try. One of the most important things to remember is to start slow and to incorporate new routines that fit into your daily schedule. A cleanse and detox are optimally the same thing and have the same goals. It is a temporary eating program that is designed to help take stress off of your system so as to provide an environment for proper healing and repairing and reduction of inflammation and rid the body of toxins. There are so many different types of cleanses and detox programs out there and choosing exactly which one to do can be overwhelming. It is very important to keep in mind that everyone’s body is different and what works for one person, might not work for you. When choosing a cleanse or detox program it is very important to look at the menu and guidelines of the cleanse.

You want to steer clear of a cleanse that suggest you eat anything but fruit and vegetables also know as “juice cleanses”. Sure if you eat nothing but pressed fruit and vegetable juice for a week you might lose some weight. But this is strictly due to the fact that you are not eating and using up all of the glycogen stores in your body, thus causing us to lose that “water weight” and muscle muscle mass. These types of programs also recommend that you do not exercise while on them. This is because it might cause dizziness and fatigue due to us starving our bodies from other vital nutrients such as fiber, protein, and fat. So with all of that being said, you can still do a cleanse and eat a wide variety of foods.

If you want to do a cleanse, you want to by temporarily avoid foods that cause inflammation in the body. This would include nightshade vegetables, gluten, dairy, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and processed foods. By eliminating these foods you leave more room to incorporate healthy nutrient dense whole foods into your diet. The foods you would want to include would be cooked vegetables, lean proteins such as chicken or fish, and lots of bone vegetable broth. There are so many benefits that come from incorporating these foods into your diet such as;

  • Boosts your energy
  • Rids the body of excess waste
  • Stronger immune system
  • Clearer thinking
  • Improved skin complexion

Bone broth provides an easy venue for concentrated nutrition and easily assimilated minerals into our body.
