The Predator franchise: a cinematic beast that just won't die! Predator: Badlands has just roared into theaters, and early reports suggest it's poised to become the biggest opener in the series since the iconic 1987 original. It's a testament to the enduring appeal of these extraterrestrial hunters. Like its sci-fi sibling, Alien, the Predator series has had its ups and downs at the box office, but it consistently draws fans back for more, decade after decade.
Some films, initially dismissed, have gained cult status over time. Take Predator 2, for example. Once considered underrated, it's now hailed as a classic.
But not every Predator outing has been a success. The Alien vs. Predator crossovers were largely considered misfires. While the first film was a financial hit, its popularity hasn't stood the test of time. The sequel, Alien vs. Predator: Requiem, somehow managed to be even worse!
Even well-intentioned follow-ups, such as Predators (2010), struggled to fully capture audiences, despite having their supporters. One of the biggest disappointments for many critics was The Predator (2018), Shane Black's highly anticipated return to the franchise, which was hyped as a return to form but ended up being a chaotic misstep.
But here's where it gets interesting: The series seems to be finding its footing again under Dan Trachtenberg, who has delivered three strong entries: Prey, Predator: Killer (or Killers), and now Predator: Badlands.
The burning question remains: Which Predator sequel or prequel reigns supreme? What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments! Also, if you want to know more, check out the full Predator Movies Ranked list!
