Butter murukku is a very popular murukku recipe from sweet stalls in tamil nadu like Krishna sweets, Adayar Anandha bhavan etc. It has a unique taste, buttery flavor and just melts in mouth. It is easy to make butter murukku recipe at home compared to other traditional murukku recipes like then kuzhal.
Murukku is the south indian variation of north indian chakli. Murukku recipes usually contain rice flour and urad dal flour. few tips for making butter murukku
- Do not add more butter as murukku will dissolve in oil. If your first batch dissolves in oilthen add some more rice flour and knead the dough again.
- If the murukku breaks while pressing add more water to the dough.
- Use either homemade reice flour or ready made idiyappam flour.
How to make butter murukku recipe with step by step photos.
Take all the ingredients except oil and water in a mixing bowl.
First mix well with hands to spread the butter properly.
Now add water little by little and make a smooth dough. The dough should be easily pliable.
Heat oil for deep frying. The should be hot but not fuming.
Load the murukku press with star nozzle with the prepared dough.
press over hot oil. You can either make swirls or small pieces.
Deep fry in medium flame until the sizzling sound stops. Cool and store butter murukku in airtight box.

Ingredients
- 1 cup rice flour
- 1 1/2 tablespoons gram flour or besan
- 1 tablespoon roasted gram flour
- 3 teaspoons soft butter
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- 2 pinches asafoetida
- Salt
- Water
- Oil to deep fry
Instructions
Take all the ingredients except oil and water in a mixing bowl.
First mix well with hands to spread the butter properly.
Now add water little by little and make a smooth dough. The dough should be easily pliable.
