Prof Whitaker is an amazingly caring man, I had never been more intrigued during a history class than before taking him. He constantly throws in references to older and newer media during lectures to have fun, and his assignments are easy and fast graded. If you need PowerPoints to learn and aren't good with lectures, take someone else.

He is a very knowledgeable and smart teacher, you can ask him anything and he will give you a full and unbiased answer. If you are a visual learner and need to see physical PowerPoint slides to be able to learn and understand what he is saying, I would say choose another professor. Overall good teacher, just gets side tracked during lectures.

Took his American History class online in 7 weeks. It was wonderful, he graded fast and responded to questions fast. Most of the work was read this or watch this then write a few paragraphs about and bam your done. All his tests were open book online with plenty of time to complete them. I highly recommend taking the accelerated online class!

Only things we were graded on were 7 discussion boards and 7 quizzes, followed by a post test. So, make sure to not miss any assignments if youre shooting for an A. Not good with communication, took 4-5 days every time to get an email reply. Wish I would have taken his class in person, everyone seems to have good things to say about his F2F course

What an intelligent guy! He knows his stuff and you can tell when you listen to his lectures which are always interesting and he makes it funny somehow which I didn't know was possible for this kind of class. I found the class very easy but enjoyable. I took 2 of his classes just because I liked him so much, also easy on the eyes which was a plus:)

If you're very passionate and interested in listening to class-length lectures (mostly made up of tangents) 24/7, having anxiety about what final grade you're going to receive, and can tolerate repeated topics..... then he's your guy. He grades absences and does not answer emails... at all (unless he just didn't answer mine). Knows his stuff though

He's really nice and funny! He's usually not always on topic, but oh my god his lectures are so entertaining and he loves to talk about current events, which is a big plus for me. Also, like what the previous reviewer said, he's a silver fox :D

By far my favorite professor at DSC!! He is charming, witty, intelligent, and a silver fox!! His lectures are very entertaining and you leave every class with a new perspective on the world. However, the course imo is very challenging. Get ready to study your BUTT off! He is super helpful and understanding, & I seriously recommend taking his class!

He is a wonderful professor (: He gives really great lecture w/ lots of info that generally ties into our assigned readings. He gets a little off topic but no matter what he ties it into the material in class. I have enjoyed the discussion we have had, after each class I walked away learning something. I would definitely take another class of his!

he's pretty cool. all you really have to do is read the chapters so you can be prepared for his lectures that kind of (but not really) are about the book! they can be kind of depressing sometimes. he's really funny and smart. he does give out study guides and quizzes over every chapter but they are not common!

His lectures are very detailed and full of lots of information. It may seem as if it is off topic, but it is all connected to the subject and understanding it. I would recommend this class be taken offline, then you can really enjoy his teaching style which he has a passion for.

Overall, a funny guy who is passionate about what he teaches. Not much heads up when it comes to tests or quizzes, study guides weren't very helpful. Gives you ten minutes for a quiz and then talks for the whole ten minutes which is very distracting. Pay very close attention because his lectures are a bit frantic and difficult to make sense of.

He was such a great professor, my major isn't in social science, I ended up taking all three classes he offered. He gets off topic easily, but usually brings it back around relating what he said to the topic. He is incredibly knowledgeable in his field and really strives to give both sides of the history, which i truly appreciate.

Dr. Whitaker is a pretty cool teacher. He is irritating sometimes because he NEVER tells when the quizzes are but he is always there for help. He genuinely loves what he teaches and has a lot of knowledge. I would recommend him!

I would not recommend taking a class online with him. He grades things several weeks or months late and forgets to post discussion boards until they're almost due. Some of his rules for the discussion boards are frustrating and unnecessary. I would take this class with a professor who is more organized and experienced with teaching online.
