The Firefox help on this subject titled "N900 Keyboard Shortcuts" indicate that the either Cntr + Left Arrow or Cntr + Backspace equates to hitting the "Back" button ... Neither work. Perhaps this advice is a remnant from an earlier version that no longer works ... This is an important shortcut for those of us with repetitive motion strain ... Or for using a touch pad ...
Thanks

Those key combinations do nothing on my system.
Try Alt+⇦ or Ctrl+[ or Backspace or Shift+Scroll down shortcuts for going back one page. See: http://www.7is7.com/software/firefox/shortcuts.html (scroll down to "Web Navigation" section, then see "Back one page").
Your version of Java is out of date and has known security issues. You should update the plugin.
- Java Plug-in 1.6.0_11 for Netscape Navigator (DLL Helper)
- Check your plugin versions: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
- Note: plugin check page does not have information on all plugin versions
- Update Java:
- Download and update instructions: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using+the+Java+plugin+with+Firefox
- Removing old versions (if needed): http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml
- Remove multiple Java Console extensions (if needed): http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Multiple_Java_Console_extensions
- After the installation, start Firefox and check your version again.

Thanks for the keyboard shortcuts ... New Problem. I attempted the Java update as warned, but it won't work. I get an error message during installation saying "Bin\awt.dll not found. However a file of same name found. No update done since contents do not match. Then I get another box saying Error 1722, Problem with installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. I tried uninstalling previous updates from Add ons, but I get the same result.
Thanks!

Uninstall the currently installed Java versions via the Windows Control Panel > Add and Remove Programs". (Sounds like you were trying to uninstall using Firefox Tools > Add-ons; that is not the place to do the un-install.)
Install the latest Java version. Download installer from:
- click on JRE under "Java" download or click "Download JRE" button
- select Platform (OS) - in your case choose "Windows"
- check box "I agree to the....License Agreement"
- click file under "Windows Offline Installation" (currently: jre-6u22-windows-i586.exe)
- save to hard drive (Desktop so you can find it)
- close browser and run installer you saved to Desktop
- After install, check your plugin versions: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/

You can use the Backspace key to go back (above the big Enter key).
or
Hold down the Alt key and then press left arrow while still holding down Alt.
