A Lorelei Pokémon guide will help you remember this OG queen, honor her, and defeat her. I admit that I don’t remember the first time I encountered her in Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue, but I do remember when I saw her in Yellow, because Lapras is, and always has been, one of my favorite Pokémon, Lorelei was special to me. I’ve also always been a fan of both white-haired and red-haired characters. There’s just so much I love about Lorelei.

She’s one of the most chill trainers I’ve ever met within a Pokémon game, yet she’s so professional about it, serving as a tough fight within the Kanto elite four challenge. As someone with anxiety who often gets caught up in the details, Lorelei has a lot to teach me, and I have a lot to teach you about her. So without further delay, here is our Lorelai Pokemon Guide!

Lorelei Breakdown

Lorelei is an ice type Pokémon trainer who becomes a member of the Kanto Elite Four. She welcomes Red, Blue, and Green players, telling them, ” no one can best me when it comes to icy Pokémon!”

Lorelei has Dewgong, Cloyster, Slowbro, Jynx, and Lapras as her main team. This only changes when Articuno, Alolan Sandslash, and Piloswine are added. Unless, of course, you count the complete party change in Pokémon Stadium.

Lorelai’s Appearance

Kanto Elite Four Member doesn’t vary much in her appearance throughout the games. In Red, Green, and Blue, her hair is dull, but after that, it’s bright red. This is primarily due to the lack of coloring in the original games. Her outfit changes slightly in a few games, but she usually wears simple glasses, a black dress, and black heels. Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen is the only exception as she wears a black tank and purple skirt.

Lorelei’s Personality

Lorelei is a logical and sophisticated Pokémon trainer. She is well-known for her “cool” way of battling, and has a special connection to Lapras. We get a different hint about her personality in the Fame Checker in FireRed and LeafGreen.

According to those that know her, the Kanto Elite Four Member appears professional, but she lets her inner child show with her doll collection. Lorelei thanks the player after their battle, letting us know that she may take it seriously, but she has no hard feelings.

Lorelei’s Pokémon

The Kanto Region Ice Queen has a set of Pokémon that is consistent throughout the games and the anime. Though a few are different in specific versions and rematches. The only Pokémon I won’t list on is her team in Round 2 on Pokémon Stadium.

Her team includes Wigglytuff, Cloyster, Exeggutor, Starmie, Omastar, and Articuno. Cloyster and Articuno overlap with other games, but the other four do not. They are strictly Pokémon Stadium picks. You’ll need to analyze her team if you want to beat Lorelei in battle:

Lorelei’s Pokémon in Each Game

Lorelei has a similar team in each of the video games but the levels and abilities change slightly. The level ranges from 50 to 65, depending on whether it’s the first match or the second – available in select games. Though the Pokémon don’t change often, the abilities do change. Primarily because new moves become available in each game, but also to keep each encounter fresh.

Red, Green, and Blue

Lorelei has two Super Potion in these games. The algorithm ensures she uses them just 50% of the time if the HP of a Pokémon is below 20%. I always felt like she used them 100% of the time.

How to Beat Lorelei

The Kanto Region Ice Queen is initially tough to beat because she’s the first Pokémon trainer you will face at the Elite Four. However, with the right team, she won’t prove a problem so long as you’re not under-leveled.

General Tips

Because Lorelei is an Ice-type trainer – and the first one you face of the Elite Four – you may think it’s easy to take her down with a Fire-type. But half of her Pokémon are Water too.

So, a better bet is likely to choose Grass, Electric, or Fighting. Rock is also a good choice, but you’ll have to watch out for the Water-Type moves. Perhaps an example team would better explain.

Ideal Team

Now, when battling the Elite Four, you cannot switch your Pokémon. So you can’t just think about Lorelei; you have to think about everyone you will battle – Bruno, Agatha, and Lance.

However, if you are having trouble with Lorelei in particular, this team should help you without hindering you. I recommend building your team for the entire Elite Four with two Pokémon picked for your most difficult encounter.

Jolteon

Jolteon is a good choice as he’s one of the strongest Electric-type Pokémon in the first generation. He can also help with some of Lance’s Pokémon, and will only be a problem whenever you face Bruno.

Starmie

Starmie is such a good choice because it can learn Thunder (via TM). With this, you can take down most of Lorelei’s team and still have water moves for Bruno’s Onix. Just a really amazing option.

Gengar

Gengar is a viable option, and not just because he’s so cool. He’s really good against Bruno, can be fun against Agatha, and can learn Dream Eater at level 38. So you can do extra damage to Jynx and Slowbro.

Venusaur

Venusaur is another good choice because it’s Grass and Poison. Grass-type moves will work wonders on most of Lorelei’s team. He will also be resistant to most of Bruno’s team and a few on Agatha’s and Lance’s.

Alakazam

This is where things get highly preference-based. But Alakazam is just a really good Pokémon that can take down her Psychic Pokémon and isn’t weak to anything else that you’ll face in the Elite Four.

Wild Card

I typically use my strongest Pokémon, which is Charizard, Snorlax, Lapras, or Dragonite, at this point. Even if you have a slight disadvantage, having a Pokémon that outlevels your opponent is always a good idea.

Lorelei in the Pokémon Anime

Lorelei appears in the Pokémon anime, but her name is changed to Prima because 4Kids thought that Lorelei was too difficult for children to pronounce, considering she is a side character.

Her name is Lorelei in later series, but in the original, it is Prima. Both names suit her, though I still prefer to call her Lorelei.

Pokémon the Series

In Pokémon the Series, Prima has violet hair and a rather professional outfit. She is calm, cool, and collected, stating that to win a battle, one must adapt to the circ*mstances of that battle. She is famous around the Orange Islands, where she met Misty and Tracey, the former wanting advice and the latter wanted to draw her. All three of the team members admired Prima.

However, Ash is the one who wanted to battle her. She refused but did Disable his Charizard when the Pokémon became unruly. Eventually, she did battle him but easily wiped the floor with him.

This is one of the first times that Ash straight up lost a Pokémon battle. She told Ash that he was overconfident, didn’t bond with his Pokémon in battle, and most of his battles were won by his Pokémon with little help from him.

Pokémon Origins

In Pokémon Origins, Lorelei battles against Red as a member of the Elite Four, using her Dewgong against his Jolteon. In this case, Lorelei lost because Jolteon is good against Dewgong. The initial Thunder likely did Dewgong in.

Pokémon Generations

In Pokémon Generations, Lorelei is a member of the Elite Four again. She fights Blue with her Lapras against his Alakazam. This is a much more impressive battle because Blue won even without either trainer having an advantage.
