Does Socratic give you answers? ›

Depending on the question, students may get answers in the form of text, images, video, audio, or all four, providing instant support for students with different learning preferences.

The best way to answer someone who uses the Socratic Method on you is to be prepared to defend your opinion with evidence and reasoned arguments. Make sure that you listen carefully to their questions and be patient in your response.

Level Three Questions:

These questions are more open-ended and go beyond the text. They are intended to provoke a discussion of an abstract idea or issue, to connect events/themes in the anchor text to other texts, other arguments, or to universal issues of life/society/mankind itself.

Socratic does not guarantee the validity of answers. However, question accuracy is supported by: Encouraging those who ask questions to not blindly copy the results they find here. If the "answer" or explanation is not clear, a comment or second question should be posted, indicating the problem.

An instructor of a law class asks a student to summarize the facts of a specific court case. The student is then asked if they agree or disagree with the court's findings and why. Show respect for differing ideas, thoughts, and values—no put-downs or sarcasm. Allow each speaker enough time to begin and finish his or her thoughts— don't interrupt. Involve others in the discussion, and ask them to elaborate on their responses.

Level Two questions can be answered after interpreting or analyzing text. They are inference-based. The answer is an INFERENCE. If it's a Level Two question, you apply your skills and concepts already known to what you learned from the text in order to understand what is being implied.

Students do not raise their hands to speak, but rather listen for a time when they can step into the conversation. Students do not interrupt one another. Students respectfully disagree with ideas, not the person who shared those ideas. Students in the outer circle remain silent until the seminar has ended.
