What are perogies?
Pierogi (plural Eastern European spelling), or perogies, are small dough pockets typically filled with mashed potatoes, fried onions, sauerkraut, spinach, mushrooms, meat or bacon. But they can also have a sweet filling made with fruit such as berries, apricots and apples or a sweet cream cheese.
What is the traditional way to cook perogies?
Pierogi are traditionally boiled in a large pot of water first and removed with a slotted spoon when they float to the top. Then they can either be baked until golden brown or fried in a large skillet in melted butter or olive oil over medium heat.
How are perogies traditionally served?
Pierogi are simply served with a traditional Polish topping of a dollop of sour cream, Greek yogurt or cottage cheese, melted butter, fried onions or pork rinds. You can change up the flavor profile with a sauce made with fresh herbs such as thyme, basil, parsley or chives and green onions.

I can easily enjoy perogies without any extra topping, but depending on their type, sour cream, caramelized onions or simply melted butter would be my choice most of times!
