Who Killed Travis On Yellowjackets (2024)

Warning: Spoilers for Yellowjackets season 2, episode 3 ahead.

Yellowjackets season 2 finally answered fan questions surrounding Travis' death. During season 1, Natalie and Misty go to find Travis to figure out who is sending the anonymous notes with the strange symbol, which is connected to their past. Unfortunately, when they get there, Travis is dead, and it is ruled a suicide. However, Natalie says this can't be possible because she and Travis made a pact they would never kill themselves. One of the lighter storylines in the series is the love story between teen Natalie and Travis. Though it's not necessarily a sweet story as they struggle with their relationship amid being stranded in the woods.

However, it's obvious they both have very strong feelings for each other, making it heartbreaking when Natalie discovers Travis is dead. There's also a wild scene where teen Natalie and Travis have sex, but all he can focus on is Lottie, who has become somewhat of a spiritual leader in the group. Like the others, Travis struggled with a lot of trauma from the 1996 events, which is seemingly connected to his death. Natalie is convinced his death was murder, and while this isn't what was revealed in Yellowjackets season 1, she was right to question his suicide.

Travis Accidentally Killed Himself In Yellowjackets

Who Killed Travis On Yellowjackets (1)

When Natalie and Misty find Travis, it appears he has hung himself using a crane. However, it's revealed that he never intended to kill himself. Instead, Travis was determined to confront the darkness within him by getting as close as he could to death without actually dying. He intended to use the crane to hang himself until he was unconscious and then have himself lowered down with help from Lottie. Unfortunately, when he was unconscious, the buttons on the crane got stuck, so Lottie couldn't lower him down.

Natalie was right that Travis didn't kill himself. However, he was facing inner demons suggesting suicide may have been an option for him, especially if he had lived and his initial plan to face his trauma didn't work. Natalie still finds the story of his death suspicious and thinks there may be more to it. She's not going to give up until she has all the answers surrounding Travis' death, likely from a more reliable source than Lottie, who she doesn't get along with.

How Lottie Was Involved In Travis' Yellowjackets Death

Who Killed Travis On Yellowjackets (2)

Lottie was present when Travis died in Yellowjackets. He had gone to her with his problems, hoping she could help him because he believed their past in the forest had returned to haunt him. Lottie followed Travis to the ranch where he worked, where he was surrounded by candles in the shape of the symbol from the forest. Travis explains his plan to Lottie, and although she's hesitant, she agrees to help him.

When Travis goes unconscious and the buttons on the crane get stuck, Lottie is too distracted to seek help because she has a psychic vision from her past in the forest with Laura Lee. Laura Lee taught Lottie about religion and spirituality but was sadly killed when she tried to fly a plane to get help, which exploded in the sky. So it seems Lottie is just as traumatized from her past on Yellowjackets as Travis was.
