Yellowjackets: Who Gets Eaten By The Other Girls? (2024)

Summary

  • Jackie was not the "pit girl" in the Yellowjackets premiere episode, but she was the first girl to be eaten by the team in season 2, episode 2.
  • The sacrificial ritual in Yellowjackets season 2 has established that relationships within the group don't matter when it comes to who is cannibalized next.
  • Javi becomes the latest victim in Yellowjackets season 2, episode 8, but the identity of the original "pit girl" remains a mystery.

Although Jackie was long thought to be the “pit girl” in the Yellowjackets premiere episode, the season 1 finale made it clear that it wasn't Jackie who died in that manner. The first episode contains several scenes revealing that eventually during their time in the woods, Yellowjackets' characters resort to cannibalism by trapping and murdering one of their fellow plane crash survivors. While the girls have officially established the sacrificial ritual in Yellowjackets season 2, episode 8, which was teased in the premiere installment, the question remains, who is the infamous pit girl, and in Yellowjackets, who did they eat?

The majority of Yellowjackets season 1’s theories had speculated that Jackie of the cast of Yellowjackets was the girl seen falling into a tiger trap, drained of her blood, and eaten by the group while they wore ritualistic animal skins. Much of the support for this theory came from her dark hair, quick animosity toward the other characters, and the fact that she was wearing the heart necklace that she had given to Shauna in the pilot. However, Yellowjackets season 1 ended with Jackie freezing to death outside and her corpse eaten in season 2, episode 2, meaning she couldn’t be the mysterious character commonly referred to as “pit girl."

Every Theory On Who Yellowjackets' "Pit Girl" Is

There are now only a few options for which member of the cast of Yellowjackets was eaten by the others, as the series has already confirmed seven characters who survive into the 2021 timeline. So far, the Yellowjackets characters known to make it out of the woods are Shauna, Taissa, Natalie, Misty, Lottie, Travis, and Van, with Laura Lee and Jackie being the first ones to die after the crash. Van's survival came as the biggest shock, supporting one big Yellowjackets season 1 ending change.

A few characters from the cast of Yellowjackets can also be counted out as the person eaten due to their physical looks being different from the victim, shown to have dark brown hair with light skin. While Yellowjackets still has several unnamed teammates in the woods who have yet to be fully introduced, with even more players being introduced in season 2, the only known character who fits the description in season 1 is Mari, who became close with Jackie, the Yellowjackets' team captain, and tried to make wine out of rotten berries.

While Mari was largely a background character in Yellowjackets season 1, her character's influence and loyalties have become much clearer in season 2. Mari ended Yellowjackets season 1 with more animosity toward Misty, whom she blamed for drugging them all into their nearly murderous hallucinations, and this puts her at odds with the confirmed cannibal character. While she still has some animosity toward Misty, she's become one of antler queen Lottie's fiercest followers, but the sacrificial ritual that was established in Yellowjackets season 2, episode 8, has established that relationships within the group don't necessarily matter when it comes down to who is cannibalized next. Mari is one of the most popular theories for the identity of the pit girl.

However, “pit girl” could easily be one of the extras in the cast of Yellowjackets that has been introduced in season 2. So far, three new Yellowjackets team members have been introduced: Crystal (Nuha Jes Izman), Gen (Mya Lowe), and Melissa (Jenna Burges). Crystal can't be the "pit girl" in the Yellowjackets cannibalism storyline, as she's already died by Misty's hands in season 2, episode 5, but both Gen and Melissa are definitely contenders by the end of Yellowjackets season 2. Based on the fact that victims are chosen by drawing the Queen of Hearts card, any of these new characters in Yellowjackets season 2 could still be the eaten girl.

It’s also been theorized that the girl eaten in the Yellowjackets cannibalism storyline wasn’t on the soccer team at all, as it’s unknown if anyone else could be living nearby in the wilderness. Other theories have suggested that Shauna and Jeff’s daughter, Callie, is the pit girl, with the pilot scene actually taking place in the present timeline. One way this theory holds water pertains to Jackie's necklace. Shauna could've held on to the trinket after it was taken off of the "pit girl," and Callie might've taken it the night she dressed up as a Yellowjackets player on Halloween.

However, this theory was debunked, meaning the character that the girls eat in Yellowjackets episode 1 is already in the woods with them in 1996, and Jackie's necklace has proven to be an important part of the sacrificial ritual. A teenage Misty is revealed as she takes off her mask directly after their first shown act of cannibalism. There are shown to be seven people involved in the ritualized cannibalism in episode 1, and audiences know that Shauna, Taissa, Natalie, Misty, Lottie, Travis, and Van survive the wilderness. These may be the seven seen in the ceremonial garb, which would put Mari, Gen, or Melissa in danger.

Jackie Wasn't The "Pit Girl" But She Was Still A Victim

Yellowjackets: Who Gets Eaten By The Other Girls? (1)

Up until the season 1 finale, it was widely believed that Jackie, out of the whole cast of Yellowjackets, was the "pit girl," because her necklace was on the episode 1 victim. While Jackie's death forbade her from being the victim depicted in the Yellowjackets cannibalism storyline shown in the premiere, she still ended up being the very first girl that the team ended up eating. In one of the most shocking moments of Yellowjackets season 2, episode 2, Jackie's corpse ended up being accidentally cooked when the girls tried to cremate her, and a pile of snow fell on top of her.

What resulted was an all-out feeding frenzy when the cast of Yellowjackets awoke to the smell of a barbecued Jackie after what's presumed to be two months of Natalie and Travis unable to find game. Shauna was the first to experiment with the act, eating Jackie's ear in the Yellowjackets season 2 premiere, but the first instance of Yellowjackets cannibalism didn't go down how audiences expected, since what's shown in the first episode is a hunting game of cat and mouse rather than an act of desperation and shame. Now that the sacrifice ritual has been established, the mystery of the "pit girl" in Yellowjackets looms ever larger.

Javi Is The Latest Yellowjackets Victim

Yellowjackets season 2, episode 8 revealed not only the full process of the sacrificial ritual but who the next victim was. The ritual itself sees the girls choosing randomly from a deck of cards, with whoever chooses the Queen of Hearts being the next to sacrifice themselves to satiate the group's hunger. The victim is then marked for death with Jackie's necklace, hunted, killed, and eaten. In the installment, Natalie was unfortunate enough to draw the Queen of Hearts, but before Shauna could slit her throat, Travis fought the girls off and she ran. Javi ran after her, saying he would take her to his hideaway and she followed.

Javi and Natalie tried to cross the frozen lake, with the rest of the team in hot pursuit behind them, but Javi stood on a patch of thin ice and fell through. Natalie tried to rescue him, but Misty stopped her, saying the others would kill her if she did. Therefore, Natalie let Javi drown, and the team recovered his body with Van proclaiming, "The wilderness chose!" It was certainly an unexpected twist and one that will inevitably change the course of Natalie and Travis' relationship for the worse. The Yellowjackets season 2 ending might see Javi sacrificed, but it still doesn't reveal who the original pit girl from the Yellowjackets pilot is.
