WARNING: The following contains SPOILERS for Yellowjackets season 1, episode 2.Lottie Matthews has experienced strange visions and premonitions throughout Yellowjackets, but her hallucination of Laura Lee at such a penultimate moment in season 2 was bizarre. The nature of Lottie's powers combines two opposing sides that Yellowjackets is continuing to explore. On the one hand, Lottie was diagnosed with and medicated for schizophrenia at a very early age. However, as seen in Yellowjackets season 1, episode 6, "Saints," even her own mother and father are at odds over the meaning of their daughter's behavior, with her mother believing Lottie's fits are due to supernatural premonitions.

Yellowjackets decided to bring this confusion to the fore when Lottie ran out of her Loxipene medication after the plane crash, and her behavior grew increasingly worrisome. It was at this point that she befriended Laura Lee, who claimed that Lottie's visions are God's way of speaking to her, and that she should consider herself special. Cut to the present timeline in Yellowjackets season 2, episode 2, Lottie is recounting the moments of Travis' death, and in the climactic moment, she turns to see a decomposing Laura Lee screaming at her. Like all of Lottie's visions, the moment is frightening, but there could be a deeper meaning behind it.

The Laura Lee Visions Could Connect To Lottie's Guilt In Yellowjackets

Given the timing, it seems possible that Lottie's vision of Laura Lee during Travis' death is a manifestation of her own guilt. In Yellowjackets season 1, Lottie essentially had a premonition about Laura Lee's death while she was being baptized. Behind Laura Lee's head, the sun glowed brightly until it looked like an all-encompassing fireball, causing Lottie to shoot out of the water in terror. It was not long after that Laura Lee decided to fly the plane against everyone else's wishes. Lottie did not try hard to stop her friend, and Laura Lee's short time in the air ended in tragedy as the plane caught fire.

If Lottie believes that she foresaw Laura Lee's demise, then she must feel some responsibility for her death, and not trying harder to stop her. The two became close in the wilderness, with Laura Lee instrumental in Lottie's rise to cult-leader status by giving her a taste of spirituality. In the moment of Travis' death, Lottie was once again somewhat responsible, since she promised she would let Travis down from the crane but then couldn't. It would make sense for Lottie to see a vision of Laura Lee at this moment in particular, as the situation calls back to another painful death from her past.

How Lottie's Laura Lee Vision Led To Travis' Death

Even more sinister is that Lottie's Laura Lee vision in Yellowjackets may actually be what led to Travis' suffocation by hanging. Lottie had only just realized that the crane remote was malfunctioning before she turned around to see Laura Lee, and Travis had not been hanging for that long. It seems completely possible that Lottie could have taken time to figure out how to get Travis down had she not been consumed by the vision of Laura Lee. With this in mind, Lottie is technically responsible for killing Travis. Had Lottie not been lost in her manifestation, she may have been able to find a way to get Travis down.

Unfortunately for Travis, that did not happen, and Lottie's vision of Laura Lee played a major part in Travis' death in Yellowjackets. While she could not get the crane remote to work, Lottie may have had enough time to figure something else out had she not been so distracted. The weight and frequency of Lottie's visions in Yellowjackets are slowly building, further blurring the line between supernatural and reality when it comes to what is truly going on with her mind. Either way, the fact remains that Travis could have been saved had Lottie not fallen prey to her vision of Laura Lee in Yellowjackets.
